Lyric Mentor Shower

The Lyrids are one of the oldest recorded meteor showers, with records dating back thousands of years. A result of debris created by the comet Thatcher, the shower typically peaks in the spring. In 2025, the shower will peak the night of April 21st-22nd and, 10-20 meteors per hour are visible at this time under ideal conditions. To see meteor showers of this scale, you typically don’t require extra equipment; naked eye observation is ideal if you want to view the whole sky. However, binoculars are always helpful and especially so if you happen to see a fireball, a very bright and fast type of meteor.
If you believe you have seen one, log it on the American Meteor Society website: https://www.amsmeteors.org/fireballs/fireball-report.
Happy meteor watching!
